The following images represent Sherburnes early explorations into the relationship between the utilitarian designed object, conceptual art and the participant or end user. Sherburnes early work utilized conceptual interventions which were imposed on familiar and utilitarian objects which were often acquired from Ikea or similar outlets. These objects often are perceived to be neutral or stylish commodities in their original state, but through conceptual intervention they become assisted ready-mades. Ultimately Sherburne manipulates the semiotic significance of these objects and in turn challenges the viewer to engage with their perceived use and presence in new and undefined ways.
