I was the director of the team that designed this Trade Show Booth which represented the University of Alberta at the Toronto Interior Design Show. Thematically we were inspired to represent our local environment in the design of the booth. To accomplish this I began by contemplating some the experiences that a city of this latitude (same as Moscows) offers its residents. An experience that is unique to such high latitudes is the early sunset and lack of sun hours during the winter. Because of the early sunset we often face a commute home in the dark, and experience our neighborhoods through their dimly lit interiors. This voyeuristic experience often instills a certain feeling of longing and intrigue as you see witness the various domestic scenes and the surroundings they occur in. The booth emulated this experience by juxtaposing a black rigid exterior with a vibrantly lit contemporary interior visible through the cut out picture window that allowed trade show patrons to peer in and even touch the furniture products created by the students.
